Tobie McKown

Chairman of the Board and CEO
Since his first sales position with Ford Motor Company in 1970, Tobie has been a proponent of the power of cooperative buying. At THE UNITED GROUP he draws upon all of his previous business experience in order to create value for all of our stakeholders, Suppliers, Members, and staff. Tobie believes in small business and the need to support independent distributors in the face of increasing competition from large, corporate retailers.

Todd Murphy

Todd Murphy has accepted the position of President and started his new role with The United Group on September 4, 2018. Murphy completed the sale of his family business, United Paper Corporation, on August 1 and has relocated from Wisconsin to Ruston, LA with his wife Tina and their five young children.

Jeff Albritton

Chief Financial Officer, CPA
Jeff is located in West Monroe and is responsible for the financial well-being of THE UNITED GROUP by providing financial projections and preparing growth plans. He oversees all the rebate reporting and payments.

Debra Norred

Senior Vice President; Corporate Secretary; Conference Manager
Debbie is located at THE UNITED GROUP office in West Monroe. She has been with THE UNITED GROUP since 1990 and is always there to assist the Member Stockholders and Preferred Suppliers. Some of Debbie's major projects each year is to manage THE UNITED GROUP annual conference, and the TUG Treks annual incentive trip.

Ty Huffer

Senior Vice-President of Sales & Marketing
Ty's primary responsibilities are recruiting new Members and Suppliers, negotiating contracts and rebate agreements with new and existing Suppliers, managing the TUG Treks Travel Program and act as liaison with TUG’s affiliate groups. Ty joined TUG in 2014 as VP of Sales. He worked on the manufacturing side for 20 years, holding management positions with Dart Container and Wausau Paper/Bay West (now Essity).

Sarah Brodie

Director of Communications
Sarah has worked in advertising and marketing as a graphic designer and business writer for more than 25 years, for and with small business owners. Since 2010, she has created advertisements, press releases, marketing materials, event logos and a quarterly news magazine for THE UNITED GROUP to bolster our brand, inform our stakeholders, promote our reputation, support sales and marketing staff, and enhance our market position in the industry.

Stacy Harper

Marketing Allowance Auditor
Stacy is located in West Monroe and joined THE UNITED GROUP in 2007. Her responsibilities include posting rebate checks into the online reporting system, and make sure checks and backup go out every month. She is also our contact to research and resolve any rebate discrepancies.

Tonya Moore

Growth Rebate Auditor
Tonya is located in West Monroe and joined THE UNITED GROUP in 2012. Her responsibilities include assisting Member Stockholders to meet their growth targets and assist Debbie with Conference planning and preparation.

The United Group® (TUG) is a fully member-owned buying group for independent, B2B distributors. Our member companies are small businesses located from coast to coast: from San Diego, California to Portland, Maine, from Amarillo, Texas to Duluth, Minnesota. 

Many are multi-generational, family-owned businesses. Some are young companies and some are longer-lived and well-established. What they have in common is a desire to be more profitable and more effective in their respective endeavors. 
Some Members may have initially joined The United Group solely to recapture profits by earning rebate dollars from our Preferred Suppliers. Over time, many Members have come to value United Group membership as an indispensible component of their annual, quarterly and even daily business plans. 
Many cite the culture of openness and cooperation as the most valuable benefit of The United Group. The ability to share freely with colleagues across the country and to gain insights from their successes, failures and suggestions creates strong professional relationships (and even friendships) within the group.
Our Preferred Suppliers range in size from giants in their industries to niche manufacturers, and they are all vetted for quality of services and products prior to introduction to the group. The United Group executive team fosters strong alliances between suppliers and members by supporting and facilitating relationships and by openly sharing supplier terms with Members. 
Suppliers are free to discuss rebate percentages without exception and are afforded quality, one-on-one meetings with Members at TUG’s annual Conference. Our supplier partners have become some of The United Group’s best supporters and often recommend us to their customers.
The United Group is a friendly, value-oriented organization that champions strong, reciprocal business relationships. We have a special quality that is sometimes hard to define. One Member described TUG as a group “of character,” a testament to our standards and practices of simplicity and honesty.
